The combination of ocean currents and sand makes for a beautiful landscape!
Over thousands of years, ocean currents have shaped sand waves at Spitsbergen Bank, aided by tidal currents and storm surges. The sand waves can be over 2 kilometers long and 19 meters high. These large and beautiful sand formations are similar to those we can see in the Sahara desert!
On top of these sand waves we find sand ripples up to half a meter high. Perhaps you have seen small versions of these on the shore?
